The consistent insufficiency in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in 1 sense somewhat bewildering, in one way or another.
In years gone by, the region was a location where several South Africans would visit to flee from the especially prohibitory policies on gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. Thus, you may bargain on something of a flourishing business to accommodate that tourist trade.
Still, maybe it isn’t really a bombshell. The state is one of the most barren worldwide, having gone through a horrific civil war (followed by crushing floods) from which it is still, very slowly, bouncing back. This can make a place much less of a vacation destination, even though there is currently a inviting setting along a few of the region’s beautiful beaches.
It is at the same time legitimate that regionally to a certain extent, Mozambique’s casinos have had to partake with several others in the lately liberalized South Africa, inclusive of the well-known Sun City founded by the Kerzner family corporation.
Here’s a list of Casinos in Mozambique:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are 78 slot machines and also video poker games, five tables of American roulette, 4 blackjack tables, and a poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are 40 slot machines, American roulette, and two tables for poker as well as punto banco.
It is thought that over time the entire tourism business in Mozambique will progress conclusively. While the local languages are, of course, African, there is in addition the portion of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the current and expanding origin of English, both from South Africa and as part of the world-wide phenomenon. The country is considerably cheap (obviously, as it is extremely poor) and as above, has some of the most outstanding beaches over the world, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the kinds of elements that make tourism officials drool, and as the country elevates out of its existing slump, it’s likely that not only will tourism develop, but that the list of Mozambique’s casinos will grow longer for sure.
While the country is improbable to ever reclaim its character as a location for partying South Africans, as there are now other selections closer to home for them to oblige in, the expansion of a long distance tourism business is being outlined. This would be to oblige Europeans looking forward to winter sun, as a break from the dreariness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. And, of course, the most elite prawns (shrimp) in the world derive from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
