Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that contains many luxuries in addition to the casino, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
